Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA) is a business strategy where individuals, instead of starting a new company from scratch, acquire an existing business. The primary goal is to take over a well-established, profitable company, often with strong customer relationships, a proven business model, and a stable cash flow. The entrepreneur then focuses on maintaining and growing the business, improving and potentially expanding into new markets.
ETA is popular among entrepreneurs who prefer to bypass the uncertainties of starting a new venture and instead work on scaling a business that already has a foundation. Search funds, leveraged buyouts, and other acquisition strategies are common models in ETA. Entrepreneurs often seek financing from investors to acquire and operate the business, sometimes taking an active management role post-acquisition.
The Center for Micro-Entrepreneurial Training (CMET) is a nonprofit organization focused on empowering women, black and brown entrepreneurs to start and grow their own businesses. We provide high-quality entrepreneurial training that prepares women, black and brown entrepreneurs with the skills needed to succeed in business. Our overriding goal is to prepare, connect, and support these aspiring entrepreneurs for generational success.
ETA is a powerful solution for minority corporate professionals facing career stagnation or those looking to retire from the corporate world. It offers a viable pathway to business ownership, allowing them to apply their professional expertise and leadership skills in a new entrepreneurial context.
Small business owners and investors can utilize ETA as a strategic tool to expand and diversify their portfolios, offering opportunities to enter new markets, increase market share, and grow wealth through the acquisition of established businesses with proven profitability.
